Become BCRPA Registered Personal Trainer and Weight Trainer during the 17 week Diploma program.

Hilltop Academy teaches a comprehensive 340 hour course designed to provide students with the knowledge in areas such as anatomy, physiology, nutrition, personal training, group fitness, weight training and much more. Our program exceeds BCRPA minimum requirements by providing students with 3 times the amount of classroom and practical hours. Upon successful graduation students will become BCRPA registered personal trainers and weight trainers.

Course Objectives


    • Fitness Theory - 72 hours
      This course will teach the candidates the fundamental principals of human anatomy and physiology. Each candidate will have a scientific understanding of how the human body responds to exercise.
      Upon the completion of this course the candidate will write the BCRPA Fitness Theory Examination.
    • Occupational First Aid Level 1 - 8 hours
      This course is a basic requirement for all fitness professionals to possess in the case of an emergency. The Fitness CPR course will provide the candidate with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and manage cardio respiratory emergencies before, during and after exercise.
    • Supervisory Course - 20 hours
      This course is designed to create great leaders; an assets which is vital for the success of a personal trainer leading a group of clients or a head training managing a team of personal trainers. Topics such as communication, goal setting and conflict resolution will be covered in great detail. This course is required by the BCRPA for any trainer wanting to become a Registered Supervisor.
    • Weight Training - 80 hours
      The Weight Training Course is designed to introduce prospective fitness instructors to the principles and practice of weight-training. The core of this program is a hands on component that focuses on proper execution and coaching techniques of several fundamental weight lifting exercises.
      Upon completion of the course students will complete the BCRPA Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE).

      Posture & Flexibility Assessment - 8 hours
      This course explores the importance posture and flexibility from assessment to execution. The daily demands of our Society (i.e. increased amount of sitting) is continuously increasing the number of people with poor posture and reduced flexibility which can lead to serious injuries while hindering any fitness goals.

      Band, Ball & Bosu - 8 hours
      This course will explore the many uses of these effective training tools. Throughout this course you will learn the proper application of these training tools as it applies within an effective training program. This course will cover the theory of these training tools as well as a hands on component to effectively learn proper techniques and teaching cues in order maximize their effectiveness and safety.

      Bootcamp Training - 8 hours
      Bootcamps are a fun, popular and effective for participants and profitable for the trainer. This course will teach you how to put together bootcamp programs that are fun and effective and give you the opportunity to practice conducting a bootcamp with your fellow classmates.

      Sports Nutrition - 8 hours
      The goal of this course is to equipment with the knowledge and skills that you need in order to help others master the basics of nutrition as it relates to fitness while staying within your scope of practice as a fitness professional.

      Business - 8 hours
      The fitness industry can be very lucrative to those that have the necessary skills to help people achieve their goals; the aim of this course to equip you with the business skills that you require to make a healthy living for yourself as well as introduce you to the multiple possibilities that exist in the fitness industry.

      Personal Training - 80 hours
      This course brings together all of the skill and knowledge that you accumulated and teaches you how to design and administer customized training programs. The skills that you will learn during the hands on particle component of this course will ensure your immediate success as fitness professional.Upon completion of the course students will write the BCRPA Personal Training theory exam and then submit the BCRPA Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE) package.

      Special Populations - 20 hours
      Due to the fact that more and more people from all walks of life are beginning to undertake fitness training there is a demand for trainers to specialize in certain segments of the population in order to meet these demands. Population segments such as seniors, youth, pre & post natal will be covered throughout this course.

      Sports Specific Training- 20 hours
      This course explores the unique and distinct nature of training the athletic population with the end goal of enhancing performance and decreasing the chances of injury. The emphasis of this course to learn how to train the athlete in the weight room in order to improve their performance on the field; special topics such as power production, plyometrics, agility, acceleration and sports conditioning will be covered in great detail.
